We decided to visit the Bernese Oberland and enjoy a spa day so there’s no better place than the Victoria Jungfrau Grand Hotel & Spa which is a 5 star spa. This hotel has a 5500 m² spa (almost 60,000 square feet!) and has great views of the Jungfrau Massif.   There’s a promotion going on that by using your World or World Elite Mastercard and booking two nights at any Leading Hotels of the World you will get a complimentary Leaders Club Membership ($150 value). I took advantage of this as I was booking two separate rooms the same night and that qualified me to get the deal. See the end of this post for all the benefits of this Membership.

The Room

We had reserved a Superior Double Room which is 21 sqm or 226 sq. ft. and had a view of Interlaken. Thanks to the last minute membership, since both rooms I booked were under my name both were upgraded to Junior Suites (35 sqm, 377 sq ft). This was a very nice surprise!

The decor is Victorian… surprise surprise 🙂 However the rooms are very spacious with a large living area and the bed area is tucked away in a separated open section. There is a small desk separating the bed area from the living space. We had a welcome fruit basket and dried fruit and 2 bottles of great Swiss quality water in the room but not many additional amenities. Wifi internet service was free at this property as well.

The Property

One of the main reasons you visit this property is for the amazing spa. Amazingly, there were only a handful of people during our 6 hours in the massive spa. We benefited from enjoying the lap pool, the two whirlpools, the hammam and the unisex sauna. Achtung: if you’re not comfortable being nude with other men and women don’t go into the unisex sauna. That being said, its quite natural in the German part of Switzerland.

My favorite was the outdoor salt jacuzzi. It was around 3 degrees outside with light rain and since I was recovering from a cold I spent quite a bit of time in this jacuzzi which ended up helping me recover. I was too busy enjoying the spa so the below pictures come from the spa but I can vouch that the pictures are not photoshopped and the property looks just as awesome as they are pictured.

There are other spa’s and multiple treatments that you can choose from but they do carry Swiss price tags. There is a well equipped gym and the Spa’s Café is reasonably priced and extremely relaxing. The spa is included in the cost of the room but the personalized treatments are additional.

I definitely recommend getting out and visiting the small city of Interlaken. We enjoyed a great fondue bourgignonne with a double portion of meat which is extremely rare to get in Switzerland.

The Experience

The architectural design and layout of this hotel is amazing. In fact, the Victoria-Jungfrau was actually two hotels that were joined together and the lobby area was created where the original street that separated both hotels was located. The staff is phenomenal and genuinely helpful. In fact, we forgot our swimsuits and the concierge was kind enough to mail them to us.

The breakfast had a great spread with a large selection of Swiss and French cheeses and a particularly nice touch was honey dripping from a portion of a honeycomb. Unfortunately, I was still stuffed from dinner and only enjoyed a bit of it. Breakfast was included in the cost of the room.

The only issue would be the fact that the spa and bars close so early but this is a Swiss tradition and not only this hotel.

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the spa, the room and the staff and will definitely return for a weekend trip during winter.

The Good: An amazing spa! Great staff; Normal Nightly Cost: $480 US – Our Cost: $360 (upgrade & small discount for being a member)

The Bad: Spa treatments are quite pricey.

The Ugly: Nothing stood out.
