GTHQ Jaunt Journal – Hotel: Park Hyatt Paris Vendome – Paris, France

Location: 5 Rue de la Paix, near Place Vendome; Louvre – 10 min walk; Metro – 5 min walk

The Jaunt

The Park Hyatt Paris Vendome is one of Hyatt’s highest end Category 6 properties. We arrived in Paris via the TGV (high speed train) around noon and after taking a leisurely stroll on our way to the Park Hyatt we started hearing the lovely sounds of a strike (normal for France…) going on somewhere near Place Vendome. We soon realized that the strike was going on in front of the Park Hyatt! Workers were complaining about low wages. So unbeknownst to us, we had a welcoming committee with bullhorns and chants for our 3 day stay!

The Room

We were booked into a Park Suite King but we received an upgrade to the Park Executive Suite probably due to the inconvenience caused by the strike going on outside. The overall size is 60 square meters (645 sq. ft.) and has a separate living room from the main bedroom with a comfortable semi-firm king size bed. There are also floor to ceiling windows and the balcony has an amazing view of Rue de la Paix and Place Vendome.

The main spacious bathroom has a limestone bath with soaking tub and rainfall shower with a tiled sit down area. The area contains two sections for clothing, shoes and other accessories. There are also two separate wash basins divided with a load bearing wall in the center. The toiletries are made by Blaise Mautin which is a high end French Parfumeur. The second washroom near the living room only has a toilet.

Additional amenities include Nespresso coffee, tea, water and a box of delicious butter cookies. An umbrella, bath robes and slippers are also available in the room.

The Property

There are a variety of restaurants, relaxation areas and bars (6 to be exact) but during the 3 days in Paris, we were too busy exploring the city from dawn until nighttime so we didn’t have time to enjoy them. We also noticed spa and sauna services as well as gym facilities are available in Le Spa. There is also a large lounge area to relax in on the ground floor with a nice fireplace. The artwork found throughout the property and rooms is a la Juliette Canet style.

The Experience

Overall this is a great central jump off point to explore and see the city of lights. The room was excellent with more than enough space and was very comfortable. A sweet aroma fills the property at every turn and the service is good but at times feels forced. After checking out, we left our luggage while we went out for a few more hours. Upon returning, the concierge staff misplaced our luggage and then requested us to help them search for it which took about 10 minutes to find – not very professional for such a luxurious property.

The Good: Great Location; Great amenities; Normal Cost: 2,760 EUR – Our Cost: 0 EUR

The Bad: Nearby shops and restaurants are pricey. Breakfast for two at a nearby restaurant was about 38 euro.

The Ugly: Staff misplaced luggage. The strike wasn’t well managed and noise could be heard in rooms on the 4th floor

  1. I hear upgrades at Hyatt Paris Vendome is difficult, so it’s great that you were able to get Executive Suite. I imagine you are not a Hyatt diamond since you had to purchase the breakfast? Thanks for the reviews at properties like these – I plan to explore some of the top Hyatt properties after I get my diamond status. 🙂

    • I matched to diamond status before applying for the Chase Hyatt which entitled me to 2 free nights in Suites. I think they upgraded us to the Executive Suite due to the strike going on outside. The breakfasts we paid for were restaurants that were in the vicinity of the hotel. My wife and I were treating my parents out to a long weekend in Paris so we decided to go out and see the city instead of being cooped up in the hotel 🙂
